PINK SHIRT DAY

Last Friday, RPS proudly took a stand against bullying by participating in Pink Shirt Day. Our tamariki looked fantastic dressed in various shades of pink, helping to spread a powerful message — bullying has no place in our community.

SUPPORT STAFF DAY

We also celebrated Support Staff Day on Friday showing our appreciation for the incredible support staff who help our school and tamariki thrive every day.
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou!
The cake was cut by Mrs Tubby (a long serving support staff member) and Mr Ruiz (one of our newest).

TE HUI AKO

Te Hui Ako – a meeting to share learning is next week, Tuesday 27 to Thursday 29 May.

On Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 May, school will finish at the earlier time of 2pm.
Please ensure your tamariki are safe from this time.

There is a community survey in the library – whānau go in the draw to win a $50 dollar Woolworths or a 50 dollar Warehouse voucher.

We look forward to meeting with both you and your child/ren next week.

RIMU TEAM TRIP TO AUCKLAND ZOO

Last Thursday, our Year 0/1 tamariki went on a trip to the Auckland Zoo to support their learning around animals and their habitats.
The students had a session with a Zoo Educator and learnt how animals have adapted to survive in their environments.
Classes got to explore the zoo and they saw many different animals including cheetahs, baboons, flamingos and lions. They had an awesome day exploring and would like to thank all the parents who came along.

At the zoo, I saw lions.

The lion was sleeping under the tree.

It was brown and peach.

It was camouflage.

YEAR 5/6 RUGBY

Last week our Year 5 & 6 rugby boys played a tournament. They won their first four games convincingly, securing their place in the semi finals where they narrowly lost to Finlayson. They came a great 4th out of 12 teams.  We are all very proud of their efforts.

ATTENDANCE

Randwick Park School and the Ministry of Education’s goal is to have 80% of tamariki attending school regularly over the term.  Term 2 is nine weeks, with a total of 43 school days. Attendance categories are defined as follows:

Regular attendance = missing fewer than 4 days across the term

Irregular absence = being absent between 4 and 8 days across the term

Moderate absence = being absent between 9 and 12 days

Chronic absence = being away more than 12 days

Working together, we can achieve this goal. If your child is unwell, please remember to contact the school via the Hero app.

This term, we have a 100% Attendance Challenge!
Every student who attends school every day this term will go into the draw to win one of two awesome LEGO sets. As of today, we have 244 students with 100% attendance — fantastic effort so far!

STRANGERS

It is important that tamariki know what to do if there is an issue walking to and from school, especially if it involves an adult they do not know.  Having conversations and reminding them regularly will help them make smart decisions if they are ever in a difficult situation.  Please speak with your child/ren about what do if they are approached, offered lollies or asked to get into a car. Focus on how to be safe, rather than the danger.  Your conversation may include:

  • Don’t accept a ride or go with adults unless your family has said you can
  • Never accept gifts such as lollies from people you don’t know.
  • Ask before going to friends homes after school
  • If there is a problem yell and shout for help. If you can get away to a safe place do so, if you can’t you are allowed to hit, kick and scratch
  • Most importantly, tell a trusted adult what happened

BULLYING

Bullying is a deliberate act that involves a power imbalance, has an element of repetition and is harmful.  It can be physical, verbal or social, including both the physical and/or digital environment.

It is an issue that all schools face and it can vary in severity and impact.  Addressing any bullying incidences is a priority for us at Randwick Park School.  If you are worried or believe your child is experiencing bullying, please reach out either by email or by visiting the office. We take all concerns from parents seriously. In many cases restorative meetings resolve the issue however if the problem reoccurs, please don’t hesitate to get back in touch with us again.

To support our aim for a bully free school, we are participating in Pink shirt day this Friday.

WINTER MONTHS

As the weather changes and the months get colder, please make sure students wear our winter school uniform (Navy trackpants, school poloshirt, school jersey and closed covered shoes) that they are clearly labeled with their name.
If for any reason, your child is unable to wear school uniform, please send a note with them.

WHĀNAU CONCERNS

If you have concerns about any aspect of our school, please speak directly with your child’s classroom teacher or one of our friendly office staff, who will direct you to the appropriate person. A reminder, it is not appropriate to address issues directly with other children, this is the responsibility of school staff, and we take all matters seriously.

HEADLICE

We are experiencing challenges with headlice at our school.
We ask that you please check your children’s hair thoroughly and treat them if any eggs/lice are present.

An effective treatment is to put conditioner in your child’s hair and thoroughly go through with a fine tooth comb. Doing this every night for a fortnight will effectively remove any live lice and eggs.

All bedding needs to needs to be washed to stop reocurring issues.

If you have any further problems or questions, please contact the Public Health Nurse on 09 266 7776
