NEW LEARNING CONCEPT FOR STUDENTS
This week, tamariki have started a new health-based learning concept called ‘Looking after me, so I can be the best I can be’. The big idea for students is to understand that well-being improves when we look after ourselves, care for others, and help make our communities healthier.
The Rimu Team (Year 0/1) will be focusing on how food and daily routines help build strong, healthy bodies. They will be learning about the importance of physical activity, sleep, and how different types of food support their bodies to be healthy.
The Totara students (Year 2s) will be building on the Year 1 ideas, including identifying the key things our bodies need to stay healthy and how these factors affect our everyday well-being. They’ll be gathering data and making comparisons as they explore how different choices impact their health
Kowhai Students (Year 3/4) will be investigating the essentials for a healthy lifestyle. They’ll be sorting foods into groups, looking at how they fuel our bodies, and learning about the role of regular physical activity in maintaining health and well-being.
Our Pōhutukawa (Year 5/6) tamariki will be learning about the factors that affect and support their personal, physical, social, and emotional well-being. This includes developing a deeper understanding of their emotions and those of others, as well as exploring strategies they can use to support their hauora.
The senior students in the Kahikatea Team (Year 7/8) will be investigating the implications and potential impact of drug use on the human body. This includes exploring both the physical and emotional effects on individuals and those around them. They will also focus on developing strategies to help make informed choices and confidently navigate peer pressure situations.

YEAR 5/6 RUGBY LEAGUE
Last Tuesday, our Year 5/6 girls and boys league teams competed. For many of the girls, it was their first experience playing a contact sport, and they rose to the challenge, impressively finishing in an outstanding third place.
Our boys team also delivered a strong performance, playing with skill and heart, narrowly missing out on a spot in the finals.
A huge congratulations to all the players for their effort and sportsmanship. A special thanks to Mr. Ruiz for his dedication and excellent coaching.

ROOM 18 SIAPO PATTERN ART
In Room 18, we created artwork inspired by traditional Samoan siapo. We began by drawing beautiful Samoan patterns around the border of our page. Then, we chose to draw either a turtle or a flower. After sketching, we outlined our drawings using black felt-tip pens. Finally, we dyed our artwork with either red or yellow dye. We are proud of the final result, they look amazing!

ATTENDANCE
There are three weeks left of our 100% Attendance Challenge! All student who attends school every day this term will go into the draw to win one of two awesome LEGO sets. As of Monday, we have 157 tamariki with 100% attendance, fantastic effort, keep it up!!
Randwick Park School and the Ministry of Education’s goal is to have 80% of tamariki attending school regularly over the school term. Term 2 is nine weeks, with a total of 43 school days. Attendance categories are defined as follows:
Regular attendance = missing fewer than 4 days across the term
Irregular absence = being absent for between 4 and 8 days across the term
Moderate absence = being absent between 9 and 12 days
Chronic absence = being away more than 12 days
Working together, we can achieve this goal. If your child is unwell, please remember to contact the school via the Hero app.

NEW DEFIBRILLATOR IN STAFFROOM
Randwick Park School has been fortunate to recieve a defibrillator, generously donated by Steve from St John’s Manukau.
This life-saving device can be used in the event of a cardiac emergency to help restart a person’s heart through a controlled electric shock. It’s an incredible gift that will enhance the safety and wellbeing of our entire school community – staff, students, and visitors.
There are now two defibrillators in our area: one located on the fence by Magic Way, and the newly donated unit will be placed in our staffroom.

WHĀNAU CONCERNS
If you have concerns about any aspect of our school, please speak directly with your child’s classroom teacher or one of our friendly office staff, who will direct you to the appropriate person. A reminder, it is not appropriate to address issues directly with other children, this is the responsibility of school staff, and we take all matters seriously. We understand that issues can be upsetting, but following this process helps ensure that everyone feels safe, respected, and supported at school.
