HE AHA A MATARIKI? WHAT IS MATARIKI?
Matariki is the Māori New Year, celebrated when the Matariki star cluster appears in the early morning sky during the winter months. It is a special time to remember loved ones who have passed, celebrate with whānau, and think about hopes and goals for the year ahead. Traditionally, Matariki was marked by sharing food, storytelling, music, and coming together as a community. Today, it is celebrated across Aotearoa through school activities, cultural events, and time with family. Matariki reminds us of the importance of reflection, gratitude, and new beginnings, while strengthening our connection to each other and the natural world.

YEAR 7/8 HOCKEY
Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Hockey teams who represented us proudly at a Hockey Tournament last Monday!
The girls team had a fantastic run, drawing one game, winning two, and narrowly missing out on the title with a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Reremoana in the final, finishing an impressive second overall!
The boys team showed great resilience, after two early losses, they came back strong to defeat Finlayson 4-0, earning a well-deserved third-place finish.
Ka pai to all the players for your effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

JAMMIES FOR JUNE/ NZ WARRIORS VISIT
On Thursday 12 June, Randwick Park School had a very special visit from some of the NZ Warriors players as part of the Jammies for June campaign, run by the incredible Middlemore Foundation. This initiative helps keep kids warm in winter by providing pyjamas to thousands of children across Aotearoa – including every single child in our school!
Among the players was former RPS student Edward Kosi, who shared stories from his school days (including a few trips to the Responsible Thinking Classroom) and how sport in school helped shaped his journey to becoming a professional athlete. He even had a chance to reconnect with his former teacher, Mrs Thakur.
A huge thank you to the Middlemore Foundation and the Warriors for your generosity, inspiration, and kindness.

RPS & MANUREWA AFC FOOTBALL SKILLS PROGRAMME
What an awesome start to our Football Skills Programme last week! It was fantastic to see so many students out on the field and turf giving it their all, trying something new, building their skills and most importantly, having fun!
It was awesome to see everyone working hard, supporting each other, and taking the first steps in what we hope will be a life-long love for the game.
Ngā Mihi to all our parents and whānau who came along to support, it means so much to the kids. One week down, seven to go for our soccer superstars!
