ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Only 51% of Randwick Park School students attended school regularly in Term 2. The Ministry of Education and our school have set a goal for at least 80% of students to attend regularly, we have some work to do to reach this.
Regular attendance means having fewer than five days off during the term. We need your support to help improve this. Please ensure your child comes to school every day unless they are genuinely unwell.
Wet weather is not a reason to stay home — our learning continues rain or shine, and we want every child to make the most of every school day.
If your child is absent, please ensure you let us know by: calling our school office on: 0800 438777 via email: absences@randwickpark.school.nz or on the HERO app

TERM 3 ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE!
Last term, we ran a challenge for tamariki with 100% attendance, and we loved seeing so many students aiming high!
This term, we’re changing things up. We have five $50 vouchers to give away — one for each team! To be in the draw, students need to have regular attendance during Term 3 (that means five or fewer days absent).
We’ll also continue to celebrate our students who achieve 100% attendance, they’ll receive a special certificate and get to choose a Duffy Book as a reward.
Let’s work together to help every child be here, every day — ready to learn and grow to be the best they can be!

2025 BOARD ELECTIONS
Who can become a board member?
School staff, parents, caregivers, whānau, and people in the wider community. Actually, anyone who meets the eligibility criteria can become a board member. There are members from all backgrounds and walks of life. Diversity and varying perspectives on a board give it strength and allow true community representation. It doesn’t matter what you do – it matters that you care about education in your community and making a difference.
What attributes can help a board member succeed?
Every board member brings their own unique experience and skills, but here are some things that will help any board member:
Enthusiasm for student success Working well in a team Showing commitment and a willingness to learn Not being afraid to ask questions Good communication and people skills Honesty, integrity, and empathy.
If this sounds like you, or someone you know, Nominations are currently open for our Board election. More information about what is involved in being a Board member is available on www.schoolboardelections.org.nz or please feel free to make an appointment through our office to meet with Miss Bleakley our Acting Principal.

SORE THROATS MATTER
Rheumatic fever is a serious but preventable illness that often starts with a sore throat. Māori or Pacific tamariki and rangatahi aged between 4 and 19 years old, are most a risk of developing rheumatic fever, especially those who:
Have a whānau or family history of rheumatic fever, rheumatic heart disease or both. Live in a large household or a crowded house.
Tamariki or rangatahi should get a sore throat checked every time they occur, as you can get rheumatic fever more than once.
Free sore throat checks are available at a range of pharmacies in our region:

SCABIES
Recently, we have had a number of cases of scabies at RPS. Scabies (waihakihaki) is a skin condition caused by tiny mites that burrow under the skin and lay eggs, leading to an intensely itchy rash and small blisters.
Why early action matters: Scabies spread easily and can cause complications if not treated quickly. Identifying scabies early can prevent the spread and serious illness.
If you think your tamaiti may have scabies, feel free to call the school office to contact our school nurse. Treatment consists of cream for the whole family, then washing all clothes and bedding in hot water to prevent re-infection.
