TE HUI AKO
We’re looking forward to meeting with you all this week for Te Hui Ako! Conferences/hui will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Please note that the final bell will ring at 2:00 PM on both Tuesday and Wednesday to allow time for meetings. A big thank you to those who have already booked a time. If you haven’t had the chance to do so, we’ll have allocated you a time and sent the details via email.
The library will be open during conferences for a whānau survey, so please pop in and take a few minutes to complete it. All participants will go in the draw to win a $50 Warehouse voucher or a $50 Woolworths voucher. Children who attend with you can also choose a Duffy book to take home! These surveys are a valuable way for you to share your thoughts about our school. The information gathered helps us review and improve our processes and practices.
We appreciate your partnership and look forward to sharing how your tamariki are progressing.

YEAR 7/8 BOOK BATTLE SQUAD
We were very excited to send two teams to compete in the Manurewa Book Battle last Thursday. This competition involved 11 teams from six schools. Working in teams of three, students had to answer six tricky questions about 10 books they had read. The quizmaster also read out several quotes, and students had to identify which books the quotes came from. While we just missed out on the podium, our students had a great time and represented our school magnificently. We are already looking forward to next year’s event!

KidsCan – The Coffee Club Christmas Cup Art Competition
The Coffee Club, in partnership with KidsCan, invited students to take part in a festive Christmas Cup Art Competition. This exciting opportunity encouraged young artists to create fun and imaginative designs, with the chance for their artwork to be featured on The Coffee Club’s 2025 Christmas takeaway cups.
We are thrilled to celebrate Sakshi Rana from our school, who won 2nd place in this national competition! Sakshi was awarded a $1200 voucher, a certificate, and the honour of having her artwork printed on The Coffee Club’s large takeaway coffee cups during November and December 2025.
Congratulations Sakshi on your incredible achievement!

CELEBRATING YOUR CHILD’S BIRTHDAY WITH THEIR CLASS
We appreciate some whānau wanting to celebrate their child’s birthday with the class. To help keep all our tamariki safe, especially those with food allergies, please follow these important guidelines:
- Check with the teacher first before bringing in any shared food.
- Avoid any food containing nuts (including Nutella and peanut butter).
- No sugary drinks, please.
If you’re unsure, feel free to talk to the class teacher beforehand. Thank you for your support with this.

KEEPING OUR TAMARIKI SAFE Teaching Kids to Be Stranger Smart
Tamariki must know what to do if there is an issue walking to and from school, especially if it involves an adult they do not know. Having conversations and reminding them regularly will help them make smart decisions if they are ever in a difficult situation. Please speak with your child/ren about what do if they are approached, offered lollies or asked to get into a car – focus on how to be safe, rather than the danger. Your conversation may include:
- Don’t accept ride or go with an adult unless your family has said you can
- Never accept gifts such as lollies from people you don’t know without permission
- Ask before going to friends’ homes after school
- If there is a problem yell and shout for help, if you can get away to a safe place, if you can’t get away you are allowed to hit, kick and scratch.
- Most importantly, they must tell a trusted adult what happened

Healthy Kai, Healthy Kids!
A reminder that we are a water only school, and we encourage all students to bring healthy food choices in their lunchboxes each day. Nutritious kai helps tamariki stay focused, energised, and ready to learn throughout the day.
Please support us by not sending children with lollies, sugary drinks, and large bags of chips or biscuits. If students do bring these types of snacks to school they will be taken and returned at the end of the day.
To support health eating we are also part of the Fruit in Schools programme, which provides fresh fruit to our tamariki every day. It’s just one of the ways we promote wellbeing and support learning at our kura!
Thank you for your support in helping grow strong, healthy minds.
