KEEPING OUR TAMARIKI SAFE Teaching Kids to Be Stranger Smart
Tamariki must know what to do if there is an issue walking to and from school, especially if it involves an adult they do not know. Having conversations and reminding them regularly will help them make smart decisions if they are ever in a difficult situation. Please speak with your child/ren about what do if they are approached, offered lollies or asked to get into a car – focus on how to be safe, rather than the danger. Your conversation may include:
- Don’t accept ride or go with an adult unless your family has said you can
- Never accept gifts such as lollies from people you don’t know without permission
- Ask before going to friends’ homes after school
- If there is a problem yell and shout for help, if you can get away to a safe place, if you can’t get away you are allowed to hit, kick and scratch.
- Most importantly, they must tell a trusted adult what happened

Healthy Kai, Healthy Kids!
A reminder that we are a water only school, and we encourage all students to bring healthy food choices in their lunchboxes each day. Nutritious kai helps tamariki stay focused, energised, and ready to learn throughout the day.
Please support us by not sending children with lollies, sugary drinks, and large bags of chips or biscuits. If students do bring these types of snacks to school they will be taken and returned at the end of the day.
To support health eating we are also part of the Fruit in Schools programme, which provides fresh fruit to our tamariki every day. It’s just one of the ways we promote wellbeing and support learning at our kura!
Thank you for your support in helping grow strong, healthy minds.
