What an incredible week it was at the AIMS Games! Our tamariki showed exceptional skill, sportsmanship, and resilience on the field and court. A massive congratulations to all our teams for their hard work and dedication.
Our Sevens team battled fiercely and finished 34th out of 42 teams.
Ka pai to our Boys Futsal team, who gave it their all and placed 35th out of 53 teams.
Our Netball girls made us all proud by finishing 4th out of a whopping 122 teams!
A huge thank you to our amazing coaches, managers, and staff who dedicated countless hours to training and supporting our students. We are also incredibly grateful to our supportive parents and whānau for their encouragement and energy throughout the games. Special thanks to our Board and school community for their unwavering support and commitment to our sports programmes.
We’re incredibly grateful to our sponsors— Ross’s Plumbing, Rano Community Trust, Adams Architects, Coll Electrical, and Crest Cleaning. Special mention to the Ted Mason Foundation for the use of their vans. Your generous support made this experience possible, giving our students the chance to create unforgettable memories.

NEW LEARNING CONCEPT VALUING OUR AOTEAROA NEW ZEALAND HISTORY
Rimu – The Year 0/1 students will be learning about the arrival of Māori in Aotearoa New Zealand through traditional stories, including those of Kupe and Te Wheke. As part of their learning, they’ll explore how early Māori lived and make comparisons with life today, looking at transport, housing, cooking, and clothing.
Totara – Through stories and activities, Year 2 tamariki will explore how history continues to shape who we are in Aotearoa. Students will explore how Māori lived and cared for the lands and waters of Aotearoa making connections with our lives today.
Kōwhai – Year 3/4 tamariki will be immersing themselves in the legends and stories of early life in Aotearoa New Zealand. They will be learning about the story of Kupe and his journey across the oceans to discover Aotearoa. They will explore how Māori lived in pre-European times, including how they travelled, built their homes, sourced food, and cared for the land and environment.
Pōhutukawa – Our Year 5/6 students will be learning about how immigration and settlement by groups such as Chinese goldminers, Pacific peoples, and refugees have shaped Aotearoa New Zealand over the past 200 years. They will explore the values that motivated people to move here and create timelines of key events in our history.
Kahikatea – Tamariki will be learning about how colonisation and settlement have been central to Aotearoa New Zealand’s history. They will explore how Te Tiriti o Waitangi continues to shape our nation, and how mana has been expressed through protest actions, such as those at Parihaka and Bastion Point. Students will also investigate Pacific peoples’ experiences in Aotearoa, including the influenza epidemic, Mau movement, and Black Saturday.

POHUTUKAWA TRIP TO MASSEY PARK POOLS
Last Friday, we went to Massey Park Pools. While heading to our destination, the bus stopped. Everyone was so curious about the bus not moving until the driver told us that the engine had broken down. The driver called the company to send another bus to pick us up. We were all annoyed because we thought that we wouldn’t be able to make it to the pools in time, but a new bus arrived 5 minutes later.
The swimming instructors put us all into groups and with no time to waste, we jumped straight into the pool!
We were having so much fun, as we rotated around to the instructors to learn different survival skills. We now know what to do if we are ever in a bad situation while swimming.
We finished our lessons, got changed and lined up to get on the new bus so we could get back to school. It was one of our most unforgettable experiences here at RPS.

Healthy Kai, Healthy Kids!
A reminder that we are a water only school, and we encourage all students to bring healthy food choices in their lunchboxes each day. Nutritious kai helps tamariki stay focused, energised, and ready to learn throughout the day.
Please support us by not sending children with lollies, sugary drinks, and large bags of chips or biscuits. If students do bring these types of snacks to school they will be taken and returned at the end of the day.
To support health eating we are also part of the Fruit in Schools programme, which provides fresh fruit to our tamariki every day. It’s just one of the ways we promote wellbeing and support learning at our kura!
Thank you for your support in helping grow strong, healthy minds.
