LEGO WINNERS AND ATTENDANCE

Last week our school wide attendance rate dropped by 4% to 63.8%. As we move further into winter, it is important that colder weather or rain does not impact attendance. We still have a number winter months ahead of us, and every day at school makes a difference to your child’s learning, wellbeing, and sense of belonging.

Kotahitanga continues to lead the way and is proving very difficult to knock off the top spot for attendance! Their attendance rate last week was more than 13% higher than the house in fourth place. Congratulations to all Kotahitanga students and whānau for their commitment to being at school and ready to learn.

Well done also to our two LEGO prize winners from Kotahitanga, Brayden from Room 24 and Jason from Room 2. Their names were drawn from all Kotahitanga students who attended school every day last week. Thank you to all of our tamariki who made attendance a priority. Every day at school counts!

A special mention goes to Room 22, which achieved the highest class attendance rate last week with an impressive 85.2%. As a reward, the class will receive a special treat. Remember, the class with the highest attendance rate across the term will win a pizza lunch, the competition is still wide open!

APPOINTMENTS AND ATTENDANCE REMINDERS

Each day we have tamariki being signed out between 12.30 pm and 1.50 pm. When students are absent from this time, they are recorded as absent for the second half of the school day. If your child is attending a medical appointment, please provide a copy of the appointment confirmation so we can accurately code the reason for their absence.

Regular attendance is a key focus for schools across New Zealand. The Ministry of Education’s goal is for all students to attend school regularly, with a target of at least 90% attendance. Every school day and every learning opportunity matters, and attending for the full day is important for all students.

We also ask that children are only signed out after 2.30 pm when it is essential or an emergency. Where possible, please wait until the end of the school day, as there are only 15 minutes remaining and this helps minimise disruption to learning and end-of-day routines.

Thank you for your support in helping us maintain accurate attendance records and maximise learning time for all students.

HOUSE POINTS

Congratulations to  Kotahitanga for taking out the Week 7 house points.
Their flag will be raised this week.

TE REO MĀORI

Each week classes will be introduced to te reo Māori words or phrases to learn and use in the classroom. Tamariki and staff will be encouraged to replace everyday English words with te reo Māori and challenge themselves to use it throughout the week. Our aim is to grow confidence in speaking te reo Māori and deepen understanding of the language.

Here is this week’s phrase (sorry your speech button wont work)

END OF DAY PARKING

At the end of the school day, only whānau with approved parking permits are permitted to enter and park within the school grounds. This is to ensure the safety of all students during a particularly busy time of day. Parking permits are given for accessibility needs and for families of children with additional support needs.

A reminder also not to park on the yellow lines along the street, as this can create visibility issues for drivers and pedestrians.

Thank you for your support in helping to keep all our tamariki safe.

If Addison Ipswitch Ruled the World… A Cautionary Tale – SYNOPSIS

Meet Addison Ipswitch, a mad professor who “wants to rule the world!” His friends call him AI… if he had any friends. Follow him as he attempts to befriend Apple and Sam, who are meant to be working on their school project. He distracts them with influencers as they “just have a quick look.” Will AI take over the world, or will he learn to work alongside us? A modern-day conundrum.

Tickets are on sale now from our student window. There are limited tickets per session due to our hall capacity and limited door sales on the night.

SPORTS DISCO

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Sports Disco on Thursday, 28 May. It was a fantastic night filled with energy, fun, and plenty of dancing! While we are still finalising the total, we expect to have raised more than $3,000. These funds will help support a range of sporting opportunities for our students, including events such as the AIMS Games. We greatly appreciate the support of our students, whānau, and staff who helped make the evening such a success.

KINDNESS TROPHY

The Kindness Trophy is founded and funded by the Kindness Collective Foundation, designed to recognise kindness and promote inclusiveness between students and the school culture. The criteria are:

  • Models our school values
  • Shows aroha to others
  • Is a role model for kindness
  • Shows integrity at all times
  • Is inclusive

The Term Two nominees were:

The winner of the Kindness Trophy for Term Two was Sione.

YEAR 5/6 RUGBY

Our Year 5/6 boys’ rugby team competed in the MPSSA Tournament last Wednesday, winning three of their five matches. Their two losses were both narrow, including one against the eventual tournament champions. For several of the boys, this was their first experience playing rugby, and it was fantastic to see their skills and confidence improve throughout the day. We are proud of their effort and look forward to their next tournament, where they will be representing the school in rugby league.

YEAR 7/8 HOCKEY

Our Year 7 & 8 Hockey teams participated in the Central Counties Tournament for Hockey in Strathallan last week. The girls’ team came in second place, and our boys’ team came in third place. Our teams did so well, despite some of them playing hockey for the first time. We also won the Outstanding Sportsmanship teams of the day.

MANA KIDSZ HEALTH NURSES

We have ManaKids health nurses onsite daily. They can see your tamariki for :

  • Sore throats
  • Skin checks
  • Head lice
  • Dental health
  • Ear and eye health and checks
  • Respiratory health
  • Allergies

If you need your tamariki to be seen by our nurses, please let our office staff or your child/rens kaiako know. For more information on Mana Kidz visit their website here.

SPORTS COACH NEEDED

We are currently looking for someone to help support our sports coaches with after-school training. Strength and experience in rugby would be a real advantage. The role would involve helping with after-school training, as well as being available to attend tournaments and sports events during the week if possible.

This would be a paid position, with remuneration negotiable depending on experience and availability.

If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact our school office.
