Last Friday, RPS welcomed Sulu Tone-Fitzpatrick to an assembly.
She is a former Netball Sliver Fern player who represented New Zealand internationally. Over her career, she played for a number of regional teams including the Central Pulse, Northern Mystics and Mainland Tactix.
Nga Mihi Sulu for sharing your journey to inspire our tamariki. Your story is an incredible example of resilience and perseverance towards achieving your goals.

POHUTUKAWA TRIP TO THE AUCKLAND BOTANIC GARDENS
On Wednesday 30th April, it was a rainy day, and we had a trip to the Botanical Gardens. We were supposed to walk there, but the teacher said we had to go in the vans because of the rain. When we arrived we had a snack, and went to the Pavilion to meet our groups. In my group there was Evany, Mele, Lavinia, Aryaman and Aryaman’s Dad.
Along with another group, we went with Miss Caroline, and the first activity was to learn about the cycle of the Puriri tree. The cycle is the seed, then the Sprout and the fruit comes after. The fruit is eaten by a bird which then poops the seed out and then the cycle starts again.
We learned about different types of seeds and how seeds can be spread. Seeds can be spread by either the wind, water or by being attached to animals which moves the seed to a new location so another tree can grow.
Some of the highlights of this trip was potting the succulent plants, we could take home to keep. Also, discovering other places around the Botanical Gardens such as the duck pond, the children’s garden and the edible garden. Luckily for us the rain had stopped and we got to walk back to school together.

OUR EXPECTATIONS FOR ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance at school is important to your child success and there is a clear connection between going to school regualry and doing well in the classroom. Making sure students attend and engage in learning is a shared responsibility.
As a parent, you are responsible for making sure your child attends school every day. If your child is going to be absent for any reason it is essential that you let us know as soon as possible.Notify us via phone, email or on the Hero app, to confirm your child absence and provide us with the reason.
We acknowledge that there are genuine reasons students may occasionally be absent. However, without regular attendance your child will struggle to make progress. If your child is absent regularly, or for extended periods, we will reach out to you to discuss the situation.
For more information on attendance, and your rights and responsibilities as parents or caregivers, head to the Ministry of Educations webpage under attendance.

TERM 1 ATTENDANCE
Our goal is to have 80% of our tamariki attending school regularly. Regular attendance over 90% or missing fewer than 5 days across a term. In Term 1 we had 61% regular attendance, this was an increase compared to 2024 but we still have some work to do to reach our goal of 80%.

JACKETS FOR NEW STUDENTS
Last week, all students who have joined Randwick Park School since Term 3, 2024, were given a free jacket. These waterproof jackets have a warm fleece lining and were generously donated by KidsCan.
Students who enrolled before Term 3, 2024, should have already received a jacket. If their KidsCan jacket no longer fits, they are welcome to bring it to school, and we will do our best to provide a replacement. It must be clean and tidy.

PINK SHIRT DAY
Pink Shirt Day is when Aotearoa comes together to take a stand against bullying. This event promotes kindness, inclusion, and takes a stand against bullying. It began as a movement to support a student who was bullied for wearing pink, and has since become a symbol of respect and acceptance. Wearing pink is a simple but strong way to spread the message – bullying has no place in our community.
On Friday, 16th May, all staff and students are invited to wear pink to school to show support for creating a safe, caring, and inclusive school environment.
