POWHIRI TO WELCOME OUR NEW ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL

On Monday 9 June at 9:30am, we will be holding a pōwhiri in the hall to welcome James Dawson, our new Associate Principal. All whānau are invited to join us for this special occasion.

Tēnā koutou katoa!  My name is James Dawson and I am super excited to shortly start as Associate Principal at Randwick Park School.
I have been teaching for almost 25 years, exclusively in Manurewa, with almost 21 of those years being at Clendon Park School.
I can’t wait to meet everyone – students, staff, and community, and learn everything about Randwick Park.

YEAR 7/8 BOYS RUGBY COUNTIES ZONE FINALS

On Tuesday, our Open Weight Boys’ Rugby team competed in the Counties Zone Tournament.
After a strong performance in pool play, they advanced to the semi-finals, where they put up a hard-fought battle but narrowly lost 12–7 to Pukekohe Intermediate.
Showing great resilience, the team bounced back to claim third place with a well-earned win over Greenmeadows Intermediate.

Capping off a great day, the team was also awarded with the Sportsmanship Award, recognising their outstanding conduct both on and off the field.

LIFE EDUCATION CARAVAN

Last week, the Life Education Caravan arrived at RPS, bringing exciting learning opportunities for our tamariki. They’ve been exploring a range of important topics, including healthy eating, self-identity, and making positive choices.
Of course, the highlight for many was getting to see Harold the Giraffe — always a much loved part of the experience!

TE HUI AKO – WHĀNAU CONFERENCES

Thank you to everyone who braved the dark, wet weather last week to attend Te Hui Ako – our whānau conferences.
It was a valuable opportunity for tamariki to share their learning and for whānau to hear about their goals and next steps.
If you weren’t able to attend, please contact the school office to make an appointment with your child’s teacher.

POHUTUKAWA LEARNING EXHIBITION

To wrap up their Science Discovery unit, Understand Nature’s Rhythm, the Pohutukawa team held an exhibition to share their learning. Students had been exploring ecosystems, biodiversity, how animals and plants adapt, and the threats posed by biosecurity issues. Each class rotated around, and tamariki proudly presented their work. It was a fantastic way to celebrate and reflect on a fun learning unit.

SCHOOL LUNCH THIS WEEK

RTC
RESPONSIBLE THINKING CLASSROOM

RTC is our Responsible Thinking Classroom – a thinking space where tamariki can reflect on their choices or have some quiet time when needed. Classrooms can be busy environments, and RTC provides a calm space that helps support learning while allowing teachers to focus on teaching.

When a child goes to RTC, a teacher is available to talk with them about what happened and to support them in developing positive strategies. To help student reflection, they write a plan that outlines what happened, why it happened, and what they will do differently next time.

At Randwick Park School, we believe that making mistakes is an important part of learning. We would only contact whānau about a child going to RTC if it was an ongoing issue and the plans were not working.
