A message from our Tumuaki, Miss Bleakley

As we come to the end of the year, I would like to thank our school community for your continued support and partnership throughout the year. Your involvement, no matter how big or small has played an important part in making this a successful and positive year for our school. Whether is was attending trips or camps, watching tamariki play sport or supporting with fundraisers – it was all greatly appreciated.

As the holidays begin, from everyone at RPS we wish you all a safe and relaxing Christmas break, with time to rest and enjoy moments with whānau and friends.

Kia tau te rangimārie me te hari ki a koutou katoa. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the New Year.

Meri Kirihimete me te Tau Hou Hari.

THURSDAY 18 DECEMBER – FINAL DAY REMINDERS

Our Year 8 Graduation Assembly will be held at 10.30 am. We ask that you park on Riverton Drive or Magic Way as our car park will be closed. Please ensure you are seated before this time. We ask that our Year 8 students DO NOT write on uniforms – instead all unwanted uniform can be donated to the school via our office for Ms Lolita to give to whānau next year.

Tamariki do not need school bags on our final day – all they need is their morning tea and a water bottle.

Our final bell will be at 12.30pm. Please ensure tamariki are collected on time and are offsite by 12:45pm.

HOUSE CHALLENGE – WEEK 10’S WINNER

Our winning house last week with the most points collected was Kotahitanga for the third week in a row!

ATTENDANCE – EVERYDAY MATTERS

Last week was the final week of our House Attendance Challenge. Well done to Mana, who came first with 61%, followed very closely by Kotahitanga with 60%. Ururoa and Te Hiringa placed joint third with 54% regular attendance.

The winners of the House Attendance draw were Thierry from Room 19 and Riqya from Room 3

On Wednesday, we will be giving out our 100% attendance certificates for Term 4. We have 78 tamariki, a massive well done to them for coming to school every day. They will each get to choose a Duffy Book to enjoy over the holidays.

Tomorrow, we will also be presenting special LEGO attendance awards to five students who have come to school every day this year

FAREWELL MRS DOT

After 22 years of hard work and dedication to our school, Dot has made the big decision to
retire at the end of this year. She will be greatly missed by our staff, community, and students, but she is ready for the next exciting phase of her life.

CELEBRATION IN THE PARK

Celebration in the Park is one of our big RPS community events, a special night where our whole community comes together to enjoy kai, connect, and celebrate our tamariki. With food stalls, sweet treats, drinks, and a classic sausage sizzle, everyone was well fed and buzzing before the performances began. And the performances were next level!

Our amazing line-up included:
RPS Kapa Haka, Senior Samoan Group, Kowhai Christmas Singers, Fijian Cultural Group, Filipino Dance Group, Cook Island Group, Fijian Meke, Senior Bollywood Group, Niuean Group, RPS Junior Samoan Group, Junior Tongan Group, and our awesome Hip Hop crew.

Every group brought so much mana, pride, and joy to the stage, ka rawe koutou!
A massive mihi to Mr Lologa for leading and organising this beautiful kaupapa. Big aroha to all our teachers who organised, prepared, set up, supported our students, and kept everything running smoothly throughout the evening.
To Mainfreight, thank you for providing the truck that our teams performed on, such an awesome tautoko for our kura.
To all our parents and whānau who came out to support your tamariki, thank you for your aroha and presence.
Such a stunning night for our Randwick Park whānau. Ka mau te wehi!

2026 CLASS STRUCTURES

This year, we trialled single year level classes across the school. As we reflect on the year and look ahead to 2026, we have decided to return to composite classes (two year levels in a class) in our Senior School (Years 5-8) only from next year.  After reviewing our experiences, we believe this structure will better support teaching and learning for tamariki in this area of our school. Years 1 to 4 will remain single year level.

We understand that some whānau may have mixed feelings about this change. Please know that our focus remains on ensuring high quality learning, strong relationships, and the best possible outcomes for all tamariki. Class placements have been made thoughtfully, with the needs of students at the centre.  Students will be advised of their 2026 placement on Wednesday, 17th December.

Well done to this week’s top three students who have completed the most lessons on Reading Eggs/ Reading Eggspress over the last week:

CHRISTMAS RECIPES FOR KIDS
REINDEER CAKE POPS

  • Chocolate cake – 150 g
  • Soft butter – 25 g
  • Icing sugar – 50 g
  • Dark chocolate – 25 g
  • Milk chocolate – 100 g
  • Small pretzels, broken into ‘antler’ shape pieces
  • Red mini M&Ms – 8
  • Blacwriting icing – 2 Tbsp
  • Cake pop sticks – 8

  1. Using your hands or in a food processor, crumble the cake into fine crumbs into a bowl. In another bowl, beat together the butter and icing sugar until creamy.

  2. Melt the dark chocolate in a small bowl over a saucepan of barely simmering water. Once melted, add the chocolate to the butter mixture and stir to combine.

  3. Add the chocolate butter mixture to the cake crumbs and mix thoroughly, using your hands, until it sticks together.

  4. Divide the mixture into eight and shape each one into a smooth ball. Insert a cake pop stick and place on a tray lined with baking paper and chill for at least 2 hours.

  5. Melt the milk chocolate in the microwave or in a bowl over a pan of barely simmering water. Take a cake pop and dip in the chocolate. Shake gently until the excess has drained off. Pierce small holes about 5cm apart, in the top of an egg carton. Stand cake pops upright in the egg carton until partly dried.

  6. Make two holes in the top of the head and insert a pretzel ‘antler’ in each one. Press an M&M in for the nose and hold for a few seconds until attached. Repeat with remaining cake pops. Leave to set for about 20 minutes and then using black icing, pipe on eyes and a mouth

Tip: Have all the decorative pieces ready before icing the pops.
