WEEKLY ATTENDANCE & LEGO WINNERS

Randwick Park School’s aim is for 80% of students to attend school regularly each term. To be considered regular, students should have no more than five days absent during the term. So far this year 89% of students have achieved regular attendance. Keep it up RPS whānau.

Last week, Kotahitanga won our house attendance challenge with the highest number of tamariki attending school. Very close behind by just 0.42% was Ururoa, followed by Te Hiringa and Kotahitanga. A big thank you to all whānau who are keeping us informed when their children are unable to attend.

Our Lego attendance draw winners from Kotahitanga were Isaac in Room 19 and Umaisha in Room 27. We will hold another random draw next week from the winning house.

PARKING NOTICE FOR WEDNESDAY 4 AND FRIDAY 6 MARCH

On Wednesday our Pohutukawa Team are off to camp, how exciting! There will be a few changes to parking availability on Wednesday morning and Friday afternoon. Our Riverton gate entrance will be closed tomorrow Wednesday 4 March from 7.30am – 9.30am. This is to allow room for all four luggage buses to pick up our tamariki safely.

On Friday 6 March from 1.30pm a large section on Magic Way (from the bus stop onwards) will be coned off to allow our buses to drop off our camp students and unload all luggage. We understand that there is limited parking, and we apologise in advance. If possible please talk to your children about an alternative meeting place after school on this day to avoid congestion.

Thank you for your support. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

ACCESS AND COLLECTION OF OUR YEAR 0-4 STUDENTS

Our corridors are open to students and whānau from the 8.30 am bell. We kindly ask that you respect teachers’ time before this, as they are preparing for the day’s learning. Students are welcome to bring their bags into the corridors once the 8.30 am bell has rung.

At the end of the school day, please collect your child from the outside of their classrooms. Please do not wait in the corridor outside rooms as they become very congested.

We appreciate your support in keeping our tamariki safe.

NEW LEARNING CONCEPTS

Last week tamariki started a new Social Sciences learning concept called Ko Manurewa toku papa kainga – Manurewa is my home. Below is a summary of what each team will be focusing on.

Rimu students will learn about our school and local community by identifying the people, places, and roles that make them special. They will explore how community members, including helpers, contribute to supporting the community and why certain places are important. Students will also learn how to take responsibility for their classroom, school, and their role as part of a group.

Totara tamariki will explore the roles and responsibilities people have at home, school, and in the wider community, and why belonging to groups matters. They will investigate how different people contribute in their roles and why places and cultural practices in Manurewa are meaningful to individuals and groups. Tamariki will also consider their own responsibilities and why these are important in different settings.

Kowhai students will focus on identifying important features of the local area on a map and distinguishing between natural and man-made features in Manurewa. They will observe and describe how the community has changed over time and begin to understand the factors that influence these changes.

Pohutukawa tamariki will explore what makes Manurewa special and how shared places are used and cared for. They will investigate why people may view and use the same places differently, identify places of importance, consider multiple perspectives, and examine how decisions affect people and the environment. Tamariki will also explore ways to care for places respectfully and sustainably.

Kahikatea students will study the history of Manurewa, describing what it was like in the past and how it has changed over time. They will examine key events and developments, such as Māori settlement, farming, and urban growth, and explore how people interact with and are influenced by their environment. Students will use timelines, maps, and images to illustrate change and consider the impact of exploration and innovation on the community.

YR 7/8 WERO CLIMB

Our Kahikatea tamariki had an awesome experience at Wero Climb last week. It was excellent to see students pushing outside of their comfort zone and attempting challenging tasks. I was also impressed with the help and support the students gave each other! Thank you the Whaea Rebecca and Geoff who came along as whānau helpers with Room 22.

TAG FINALS

Last Wednesday our Girls’ and Boys’ Tag teams competed at the Counties Zone Finals at Bruce Pulman Park. Both teams played some excellent Tag over the course of the day. Thank you to Mrs Savali and Jordan for coaching our teams on the day, and Erica for supporting us with transport.

Our Girls’ team were undefeated in pool play, qualifying them to play in the final. They played an excellent game to go down narrowly to Manurewa Intermediate – ka pai girls!

YR 5/6 SOFTBALL

Well done to our amazing Year 5 & 6 softball teams who competed on Friday. Team 1 had an outstanding day, finishing in 1st place, while Team 2 also played well to secure 5th place. We are incredibly proud of you all.  A huge thank you to Whaea Marilyn for her dedication in training our teams, and to Easton and Tahu for their fantastic umpiring!

HOUSE POINTS

Congratulations to the mighty Mana house for taking out the Week 4 house points – two weeks in a row!  Their house flag will once again be proudly raised this week.

NUT ALLERGY

We have a student at Randwick Park School who has a severe nut allergy. We ask that when packing your child’s lunchbox to be mindful of what is in it. Preferably no nut bars, nut spreads (peanut butter or nutella) or packet nuts/trail mixes please.

If you have any questions please ask our office staff. Thank you for your support.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Our breakfast club is open Monday to Friday 8 – 8:30am for all our tamariki.
We are in the process of changing the location of Breakfast Club due to Room 3 being used. It is currently in Te Kahukura.
