A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINICIPAL
I hope that you all had a fantastic Easter and the school holidays went well. It was lovely to see all the tamariki back yesterday with big smiles on their faces ready for a new term of learning.
We began the term with a powhiri to welcome our new tamariki and also a new staff member. We are pleased to welcome Seona Utupo to our teaching team, who will be teaching Year 1 students in Room 2
We have a busy and exciting term ahead, with many learning opportunities planned across the school as we work towards our production at the end of June. We know this will be a highlight for our tamariki and school community.
A few reminders for the term ahead: please contact the school through the Hero app or by email if your child is going to be absent. Regular attendance continues to be a priority, as every day at school counts. If tamariki are bringing bikes or scooters to school, please ensure they bring a lock to keep them secure during the day. We also ask for your support in using the zebra crossings after school so that everyone stays safe around our school gates.
As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or would like support, please do not hesitate to get in touch or come in and see us. Members of the Senior Leadership Team are always available through the school office.
Ms McMurray is away again this term and I will continue in the role of Acting Principal.
We look forward to another positive and successful term together.
Ngā mihi Andrea Bleakley Acting Principal

TERM 1 ATTENDANCE & LEGO WINNERS
At the end of last term, we celebrated tamariki who achieved excellent attendance by presenting certificates and Duffy books to every student who attended school every day throughout the term. An incredible 122 students achieved 100% attendance – a fantastic accomplishment!
Our house with the highest regular attendance for the term was Ururoa. Well done, Ururoa! The challenge is now on for the other houses as we head into Term 2.
Congratulations also to Rei from Room 7 and Kio from Room 25, who were the winners of the House LEGO draw for the final week of Term 1.

During Term 1, 60% of our tamariki attended school regularly, meaning they were absent for fewer than five days across the term. While we still have work to do to reach our goal of 80% regular attendance, this target is well within our reach. If those students with irregular attendance (absent for between 5 and 9 days across the term) improved to regular attendance, we would achieve our goal.
Whānau, your support is vital in making this happen. Every day at school matters, and by working together we can give our tamariki the best opportunity to learn, grow, and be the best they can be.

Well done to our Year 8 students, who had the highest percentage for regular attendance, with 72% attending consistently throughout the term. This is a fantastic achievement and a great example for others to follow.
Our junior school has some work to do, particularly in Years 1–3. Our Year 3 tamariki had the lowest percentage of regular attendance, and Years 1–3 also had the highest rates of moderate and chronic absence. Building strong attendance habits early is so important, and we need whānau to work with us to ensure our youngest learners are at school every day and ready to learn.

TERM 1 HOUSE CUP WINNERS
Our Term 1 house competition didn’t just finish – it exploded into life on the final day.
After trailing for much of the term, Ururoa stormed home with three straight weekly wins to snatch the trophy in dramatic fashion, finishing on an impressive 7,475 points. It was a comeback that had everything: momentum, pressure, and a perfectly timed surge when it mattered most.
Hot on their heels was Kotahitanga with 7,285 points, pushing Ururoa right to the end, while Mana (7,175) and Te Hiringa (6,925) stayed firmly in the hunt in what was one of the closest competitions we’ve seen.
And the real twist this term? Rubbish. That’s right – keeping our school clean became a game-changer. With double points up for grabs in the final weeks for the tidiest rubbish zones, every scrap counted. It wasn’t just about participation and pride – it was about teamwork, responsibility, and stepping up for our environment.
A huge congratulations to Ururoa for an unforgettable win – and to all our houses for making Term 1 such a fiercely contested and positive competition.
Here is a breakdown of house points over the term:

TE HUI AKO ATTENDANCE
Thank you to all our whānau who were able to attend Te Hui Ako last term to hear about how their tamariki had settled into school and to help set learning goals. Across the school, we achieved a fantastic 93% attendance rate. Nine classes reached our goal of 100% attendance – congratulations to Rooms 1 and 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 22, 23, and 31. We also had six classes who were just one meeting short of reaching 100%. Our next round of Te Hui Ako meetings will be held on the 9th and 10th of June.
WHĀNAU SURVEY WINNERS
Congratulations to Dinika Goyal and Topiese Tafolo’s whānau on winning the $50.00 gift card drawer for completing our whānau survey during Te Hui Ako.

OUR SCHOOL GARDENS
Room 25 harvested the kumara that was planted at the end of last year. We had enough to cook some tasty kumara chips! Tamariki loved planting, tending, harvesting, cooking, and eating from their class gardens.
