LEGO WINNERS AND ATTENDANCE

Our school wide regular attendance rate last week was 61.4%. The percentage is gradually dropping each week, we encourage all whānau to support their tamariki to attend school every day they are well enough to do so. Every day of learning matters, and with the end of term approaching, there are still many important learning opportunities and events for students to be part of. A reminder that the last day of Term 2 is Friday 3 July.
Once again, Kotahitanga has claimed the top spot for attendance. They have had an outstanding run this term and continue to lead the way. Congratulations to all Kotahitanga students and whānau for their commitment to showing up and making the most of every learning opportunity.
Well done to our LEGO prize winners, Jonara from Room 12 and Jane from Room 3. Their names were drawn from all Kotahitanga students who achieved 100% attendance last week. Also a special shoutout to Room 22, who had the highest class attendance rate last week with an impressive 85.2%.

There is still plenty of time left in the race for our term attendance prize. The class with the highest attendance rate across the term will enjoy a pizza lunch, so keep up the great work and let’s see which class can finish on top!

PAPAKURA NETBALL CENTRE- MAY VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
To begin our National Volunteer Week celebrations, we’re proud to recognise our May Volunteer of the Month, Sala’a from Randwick Park Netball Club.
Described in his nomination as a coach, administrator, manager, and club president, Sala’a has dedicated more than 20 years to supporting netball in our community.
His commitment to Randwick Park Netball Club, Papakura Netball Centre, and the wider netball community extends far beyond games and trainings. He creates positive and supportive environments where players of all ages and abilities feel valued, encouraged, and inspired to be their best both on and off the court.
From mentoring players and supporting whānau to helping ensure his club continues to thrive, Sala’a’s passion for netball is evident in everything he does. Generations of players have benefited from his guidance, patience, and belief in them.

TE REO MĀORI
Each week classes will be introduced to te reo Māori words or phrases to learn and use in the classroom. Tamariki and staff will be encouraged to replace everyday English words with te reo Māori and challenge themselves to use it throughout the week. Our aim is to grow confidence in speaking te reo Māori and deepen understanding of the language.
Here is this week’s phrase (sorry your speech button wont work)

TE HUI AKO TERM 3
Our Te Hui Ako meetings to share learning are scheduled for 28 and 29 July (Week 2 of Term 3). This week, we will be sending out booking forms. Whānau can book online or return the booking form to the school office. If you have any questions, please talk to our office staff.
We look forward to meeting with all of our tamariki and their whānau.
Te Hui Ako meetings will provide an opportunity for students, whānau, and teachers to discuss the mid-year report, share student reflections, and set learning goals for the remainder of the year. Teachers are currently working on these reports, which will be shared with whānau through Hero next week. They will include information about your child’s progress and achievement in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, along with a general comment from the teacher.

BOOK BATTLE
Last Thursday, we sent two Year 7–8 teams to the second annual Manurewa Book Battle. Our students had been working hard in the lead-up, reading ten set books.
The competition was genuinely intense, with teams answering six questions from each book, as well as taking on the challenge of matching mystery quotes to the correct book titles. Our teams narrowly missed out on the top three in what was a fierce contest, but they represented our school with pride, teamwork, and impressive book knowledge. It was a fantastic experience and a great celebration of reading.

RECYCLING RIGHT SHOW
Last Friday, our Year 2–6 students had the opportunity to enjoy the entertaining and educational Recycling Right show, performed by A Fool’s Company. The performance delivered an important message about why recycling correctly matters and how each of us can play our part in looking after our environment.
Joining the audience were our Year 7–8 production actors, who not only enjoyed the show but also picked up some valuable acting tips by watching the talented performers in action. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and the two actors from A Fool’s Company commented on how much they appreciated the enthusiastic crowd participation from our Randwick Park students. It was a fantastic way to combine learning, laughter, and inspiration!
