TE HUI AKO

This afternoon our first round of hui take place. We look forward to meeting with all our tamariki and their whānau to discuss their learning and acheivements.

ATTENDANCE

Last week, our school-wide regular attendance rate was 65.8%. There are lots of bugs around and we have had many students away due to illness. If your child is absent, please let us know through the Hero app, by email, or by phone. This allows us to record the correct attendance code and means we won’t need to follow up with a phone call or text message.

A reminder that students who are signed out before the end of the school day may be marked absent for that half-day if they have not attended the required amount of learning time. If your child is attending a medical, dental, or specialist appointment, please provide confirmation of the appointment so we can record the absence using the correct Ministry of Education attendance code.

Congratulations to Kotahitanga, who had the highest attendance last week. All Kotahitanga tamariki who attended school every day were entered into our weekly LEGO attendance prize draw. Congratulations to Alex (Room 20) and Jonah (Room 27), who were our lucky winners! A special shout-out also goes to Room 22, who had the highest attendance of any class across the school.

HOUSE POINTS TERM TWO WINNERS

Congratulations to Te Hiringa for taking out the winning house for Week One, it was very close! Their flag will be raised this week.

CELEBRATING OUR PUBLISHED RPS AUTHORS AND ILLUSTRATORS

Our school recently celebrated the completion of a special literacy project that began in March, bringing together our talented student writers and illustrators.

Working alongside New Zealand author David Riley, students developed their own original stories, while illustrator Chad Robertson guided our young artists in creating illustrations that brought those stories to life.

At our celebration, attended by students, whānau, and staff, David and Chad shared their creative journeys and inspired students with insights into the writing and illustration process.

We are incredibly proud of the creativity, dedication, and teamwork our students demonstrated throughout the project. A heartfelt thank you to David Riley and Chad Robertson for sharing their expertise and helping make this such a memorable learning experience.

ROAD SAFETY REMINDER

Please take a few minutes to talk with your tamariki about staying safe when crossing the road. Encourage them to always use the zebra crossings on Riverton Drive and Magic Way. There have been some near accidents with tamariki crossing near the shops instead of using the school patrol. For their safety, they should use the patrolled crossing outside the school so they are on the correct side of the road.

If crossing in other locations, remind your tamariki to stop at the curb, look both ways, listen for traffic, and only cross when it is safe to do so. When the school patrol is operating, they should always wait for the patrollers to signal that it is safe before crossing.

By working together, we can help keep all of our tamariki safe when walking to and from school.

PARKING

To help keep our students safe, please do not park on yellow lines or at bus stops during drop off and pick up times. These areas are marked to ensure clear visibility, allow buses to operate safely, and provide safe crossing points for children. Parking in these restricted areas can create unnecessary hazards.

NEW LEARNING CONCEPT – ALL SYSTEMS GO!

This term, all tamariki have begun a new learning concept called, All Systems Go. This science-based concept focuses on Planet Earth and Beyond. Over the term, classes will investigate how our place in the universe is shaped by the interconnected systems of Earth and space. By exploring patterns, relationships, and changes in the natural world, tamariki will develop an understanding of how Earth, space, and living things interact. They will also consider how their actions can help care for our planet and its future.

CROSS COUNTRY – YR 3-6

Well done to all our tamariki who participated in their area Cross Country last term.
Below are the placings for our Year 4-6 students.

YEAR 7-8 NETBALL

We had an excellent day at the Central Counties Netball tournament yesterday. All four teams came away with second placings – ka pai teams!

Our Year 7 Boys played in a round robin format, defeating The Gardens twice and having two six-point losses to Clendon Park.

The Year 7 Girls also played in a round robin format, winning games against Finlayson Park, The Gardens and St Anne’s. Their only defeat came at the hands of an excellent Clendon Park team.

Our Year 8 Boys played in a pool play format, as their grade had ten teams. They placed second in their pool, beating Clayton Park, Finlayson Park and Te Matauranga and losing to Clendon Park. After a comfortable win in the semi-final against The Gardens, they narrowly lost their final against Clendon Park 8-5.

The Year 8 Girls also played in a pool play format, as their grade had eleven teams. They placed first in their pool, beating Clayton Park and Roscommon. After a quarter final win against St Anne’s, they defeated Finlayson Park in the semi-final final before losing to a talented Clendon Park team in the final.
