A MESSAGE FROM OUR ACTING PRINCIPAL
It has certainly been another busy and exciting term at Randwick Park School! We began the term by farewelling Ms McMurray after 30 years of dedication and service as our Principal. It was a very special opportunity to celebrate her contribution to RPS and the many tamariki, whānau and staff she has supported over the years.
Our kaiako have continued to work hard to provide tamariki with a wide range of learning opportunities, both in and beyond the classroom. This term has seen our students learning about Planet Earth and Beyond, with visits to the Auckland Stardome helping to bring our Science learning to life. Our students have also enjoyed opportunities to develop their skills and confidence through experiences such as gymnastics at Bruce Pulman.
Our tamariki have continued to excel in sport, with some fantastic achievements this term. Our Year 8 boys’ netball team placed third at the Auckland Netball Championships, while our AIMS Games Netball team made it through to the finals and finished an incredible second in New Zealand. We have also had students represent Manurewa at the Auckland Speech Finals and the Auckland Cross Country Championships. The list of achievements really does go on and on!
A huge thank you to our whānau for your continued support throughout the term. Whether you have attended a conference, helped on a trip, supported a sporting event or simply encouraged your child with their learning, your involvement makes a real difference to our tamariki and our school.
Now it is time for our students and teachers to take a well-deserved break. I hope all of our RPS whānau have a safe, happy and relaxing holiday. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another action-packed term on Monday 12 October.

WEEKLY ATTENDANCE
 With just a few days left of the term, every day at school still counts! Our school-wide attendance was 61.3% last week. Congratulations to Te Hiringa, who were our house winners with an excellent 67.3% attendance. Well done to Room 12, who had the highest class attendance at 76%, fantastic effort!
We know that everyne is looking forward to the holdiays, but they don’t start until Saturday! There is still important learning, activities and opportunities happening at school this week. Comng to school each day helps tamariki stay connected with their friends, keep up with their learning and finish the term on a positive note. A big thank you to all our tamariki and whānau who continue to make getting to school every day a priority.

CELEBRATING TE WIKI O TE REO MĀORI
A special mihi to Room 17 and Room 12, who performed a fantastic items for our school. It was wonderful to see our students sharing their talents and coming together to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.

BASKETBALL – YR 5-6
It was a great day of basketball at the MPSSA tournament! Both our boys and girls teams went undefeated in pool play before facing a very strong Clendon Park team in the semi-finals.
Our girls then played St Annes in a thrilling 3rd/4th place playoff. The game finished in a draw at full time, sending it into overtime. Unfortunately, we lost by just one goal, finishing a very respectable 4th place out of 17 teams!
Our boys faced Manurewa West in the bronze medal match and came away with the win, taking out 3rd place out of 19 teams.
A huge thank you to Logan, who has been training the boys since the beginning of Term 2, and to Ana, Mecca and Mya for all the work they have put in with our girls to get them playing at such a high standard.
Well done to both teams on an awesome day!

BASKETBALL – YR 7-8
Our Year 7/8 boys’ and girls’ teams competed in the CCSA Basketball Tournament last Wednesday, showing fantastic teamwork, determination and school pride.
Our girls’ team went undefeated in pool play, then defeated St Anne’s in the semi-final. They finished runners-up (2nd) after a tough-fought final against Clendon Park.
Our boys’ team won their first two pool games against Takanini and Reremoana before a loss to Gardens. They then played two hard-fought games in the semi-final and 3rd/4th place playoff, finishing a very respectable 4th place.
Thank you to Ana, Mecca, Maia and Ron for their coaching and help on the day.

TE WHATU STARDOME OBSERVATORY AND PLANETARIUM
RIMU TEAM
Our Year 1 tamariki went on a fun trip to Stardome! We learned about space, including the Sun, Moon, stars, and planets. We found out that the Sun gives Earth light and heat and talked about how Earth moves in space. The kids loved watching a movie about planets. It was a day full of exploration and discovery!
KOWHAI TEAM
The children had a fantastic time on our trip to Stardome! They were excited to explore the different exhibits and enjoyed learning about the Sun, Moon, stars, and our amazing universe. The children were curious, engaged, and eager to discover new things. It was a fun-filled day of learning and exploration!
POHUTUKAWA
On Thursday, when we were going to stardome we were so excited. When I saw the big bus, I thought we were going in there, but instead we went to the small bus. Although it was small, it had air conditioning. The air conditioning kept us cool inside the small bus, and it protected us from the burning sun. It was a bumpy ride. When we arrived at Stardome, we took pictures at the front of it. Then we went inside, oh my gosh, it was so cool I could have done a front flip! We felt how much a milk bottle weighs on Earth, the Moon, and the Sun. The Sun’s was glued to the table because its gravity is so strong that it would be impossible to pick it up. Even after trying a hundred times, I could only lift the Moon and Earth’s weight with all my power. We saw a display that had all the planets and how they orbit around the Sun. We even saw how the Moon orbits the Earth, and the Earth orbits the Sun. We lay down on a sofa pretending we were inside the International Space Station, and when you lie down, you can see what the Earth would look like from outer space. After that, we went inside the classroom where we had four people pretending to be the Earth, showing how we have day and night. Following our lesson, we went to the Planetarium, where we watched a cool movie inside the dome. The movie took us on a journey through the Solar System, teaching us about each of the planets. A fact I learnt was that there are moons inside Saturn’s rings. Lastly, we waited for our small bus that took three minutes, and we headed back to school, and that was the end of our tour.

MCDRIBBLER BASKETBALL COMPETITION
Our Year 5/6 boys have had a great time competing in the Friday afternoon McDribbler competition. Last Friday they played in the finals, taking on club team Timberwolves in a very close game. The boys held their nerve and came away with a 24–22 win!
It has been awesome to see their skills and confidence grow each week. A special congratulations to Joshua Pagaialii, who was chosen by the referees as MVP of the match. Well done boys!

WATER ONLY AT RPS
A reminder that Randwick Park School is a water-only school. This means that students should only bring plain water to school.
We encourage our tamariki to drink water throughout the school day because staying hydrated supports concentration, energy levels, learning and overall wellbeing. Choosing water instead of sugary drinks also helps protect their teeth and supports healthy habits for life.
Please help us by sending your child to school each day with a drink bottle filled with water. If tamariki do bring other drinks to school, they will be asked to take them home or drink them after school.

BRUCE PULMAN GYMNASIUM – TOTARA TEAM
As part of our Physical Education programme, Totara Team students – Rooms 4, 7, 8 and 9 have been developing their gymnastics skills through weekly sessions, practising jumping, balancing, and rolling. We also enjoyed an exciting visit to Bruce Pulman Gymnasium, where students explored a range of gymnastics apparatus, including trampolines, foam pits, balancing beams, bars, and rings. This EOTC experience was a wonderful opportunity for our students to build their physical skills, confidence, and coordination while having fun in a new environment!

AN AMAZING ACHIEVEMENT!
Miss Kirstie Nash, who is one of our staff members, a reliever and swimming instructor, was awarded the CLM Legend of the Year Award. This honour is awarded from accross all CLM (Community Leisure Management) staff nationwide, making it an extraordinary achievement and a true reflection of the passion, dedication and postiive impact she brings to the CLM team and community everyday.
We all are so proud of her.

STUDENT LEADERS ASSEMBLY TALK
Kia ora koutou! We are talking about graffiti. We’ve noticed a bit too much writing appearing around our school: on walls, tables, toilets and places that definitely aren’t part of any school art programme. Some people seem to think, “I’ll just write my name – no one will notice.” But if everyone thought that, we’d need a whole new building just for everyone’s signatures!
And some of the drawings are pretty interesting too. Some look like artwork…and some make you wonder whether the artist was actually trying to draw something or just testing if the pen worked! If you want to show your artistic skills, tino pai – but please use somewhere you’ve actually been given permission to. Our school is not your personal art gallery!
When you put graffiti on something, someone has to clean it off. It takes time and costs money – money that could be spent on things we actually want. It’s a bit like making a huge mess after the whānau has finished eating and saying, “Don’t worry, someone else will clean it up!” We all know Mum, Dad, Nan or the aunty in charge is going to have something to say about that!
We all share this school, so me tiaki tātou i tō tātou kura – let’s look after our school. If you see someone doing graffiti, don’t join in or encourage them. Be the person who says, “Kāti!” – stop – and let a teacher know if you need to.
We want Randwick Park to be somewhere we can bring our whānau and feel proud. He kura mō tātou katoa – it’s a school for all of us.
So remember: your name belongs on the school roll, your kai belongs in your lunchbox, and your artwork belongs somewhere you’re allowed to create it!

SEXUALITY EDUCATION AT RPS
As part of the Health and Physical Education curriculum, over the first two weeks of next term our tamariki will take part in sexuality education. We know this can sometimes be a topic that whānau have questions about, so below is information about what will be covered over the unit of learning for each year level.
At RPS, we use Navigating the Journey, a New Zealand Relationships and Sexuality Education programme developed by Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa. The programme provides age-appropriate learning about relationships, wellbeing, growing and changing, and keeping ourselves safe. Our approach is always age and developmentally appropriate, and learning is delivered in a respectful and inclusive way. We encourage whānau to talk with their tamariki about these topics at home as well, as this provides an important opportunity to reinforce messages about healthy relationships, safety and wellbeing.
If you have any questions about the sexuality education programme, please contact the school. We are happy to discuss what will be covered at your child’s year level.
