ATTENDANCE & LEGO WINNERS
Kotahitanga has done it again! After being knocked off the top attendance spot the previous week, they have worked their way back to first place. It was a very close contest, with Mana and Te Hiringa right behind them. Our school-wide attendance last week increased to 67.7%, showing positive progress from the week before.
We also have a new class leading the way for attendance. Congratulations to Room 32, who achieved an outstanding 85.2% attendance rate last week. Ka pai!
Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. Every day at school gives opportunities for learning, building friendships, developing routines, and participating in school life. When students attend school consistently, they are more likely to achieve academically and feel connected to their learning and their peers.
Congratulations to Prisha (Room 32) and Lavinia (Room 22), who were the lucky Kotahitanga members to win this week’s LEGO attendance draw. Thank you to all our whānau for supporting regular attendance and helping our tamariki make the most of every learning opportunity.

CHESS
For the second year running, our talented chess team of Lex, Nephi, Gurshaan, and Antonio emerged as South Auckland Primary Interschool Chess Champions. Competing against teams from seven other schools, they demonstrated outstanding skill, strategy, and teamwork to successfully defend their title and secure a place at the National Championships.
Our Intermediate team of Raiden, Ames, Arsh, Willy, and Ibrahim also represented the school with pride. Facing strong competition from 15 other teams, they played exceptionally well and achieved a commendable 7th place finish out of 16 teams. A huge thanks to Coach Andrew for working with our teams.

YEAR 7/8 BOYS RUGBY
Well done to our two Year 7/8 Boys’ Rugby teams who played at the Counties Zone finals . Our Open Weight boys placed second and our Under 60kg boys placed third overall. It is an excellent effort to have two teams placing at this event considering we only have 150 Year 7/8 students and were competing against far bigger intermediate schools.

TE REO MĀORI
Each week classes will be introduced to te reo Māori words or phrases to learn and use in the classroom. Tamariki and staff will be encouraged to replace everyday English words with te reo Māori and challenge themselves to use it throughout the week. Our aim is to grow confidence in speaking te reo Māori and deepen understanding of the language.
Here is this week’s phrase (sorry your speech button wont work)

TE HUI AKO CHANGE
MID YEAR REPORTING AND TE HUI AKO
We have reviewed the timing of our Te Hui Ako meetings to better align with the Ministry of Education’s expectations for reporting student progress and achievement to whānau.
As a result, there will be no Te Hui Ako or whānau conferences held this term. Instead, students will receive a mid-year report, which will be shared with whānau through Hero. The report will include information about your child’s progress and achievement in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, along with a general comment from the teacher.
At the beginning of Term 3, on Tuesday 28 July and Wednesday 29 July, we will hold Te Hui Ako meetings. These meetings will provide an opportunity for students, whānau, and teachers to discuss the mid-year report, share student reflections and set learning goals for the remainder of the year. Further information about booking meeting times will be provided closer to the date.
You will notice some changes to the format and language used in this year’s mid-year report. One of the key changes is the introduction of achievement descriptors that align with nationally consistent reporting practices. Instead of the previous terms Above, At, Below, and Well Below, we will be using the following descriptors: Emerging, Developing, Consolidating, Proficient, and Exceeding.
- Emerging – Your child is beginning to develop the knowledge and skills expected at their year level. They are working towards curriculum expectations and benefit from ongoing support, guidance, and opportunities to practise their learning.
- Developing – Your child is making progress towards the knowledge and skills expected at their year level. They are building confidence and capability and are continuing to work towards consistently meeting curriculum expectations.
- Consolidating – Your child is meeting many of the expected learning outcomes for their year level and is strengthening their ability to apply knowledge and skills with increasing confidence and independence.
- Proficient – Your child is consistently demonstrating the knowledge and skills expected at their year level. They can apply their learning independently across a range of contexts and are meeting curriculum expectations.
- Exceeding – Your child is demonstrating knowledge and skills beyond those typically expected at their year level. They apply their learning confidently, independently, and in increasingly complex situations.
It is important to remember that learning is a journey. Students progress at different rates and may be working across different descriptors in different curriculum areas. The most important measure is the progress they are making over time.
The report will also include information about your child’s effort and engagement in learning, along with suggestions for how whānau can support learning at home. We look forward to sharing your child’s progress and continuing to work in partnership to support their learning journey.

If Addison Ipswitch Ruled the World… A Cautionary Tale – SYNOPSIS
Meet Addison Ipswitch, a mad professor who “wants to rule the world!” His friends call him AI… if he had any friends. Follow him as he attempts to befriend Apple and Sam, who are meant to be working on their school project. He distracts them with influencers as they “just have a quick look.” Will AI take over the world, or will he learn to work alongside us? A modern-day conundrum.
Tickets will be sold from Week 8 (Monday 8th June) from our school office (cash and eftpos only).

This would be a paid position, with remuneration negotiable depending on experience and availability.
If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact our school office.
