A reminder that all children must be collected from the hall at the end of their disco:

  • Year 1–4 at 5.00 pm
  • Year 5–8 at 7.00 pm

Students will have to remain in the hall until they are picked up. There will be food, drinks, and glowsticks available for purchase on the night. Please note that these are cash only.

Tickets available from our school office until Fri 29 May. Cash only.

ATTENDANCE & LEGO WINNERS

This week marks Week 6 of the term, so we are now just over halfway through. Attendance last week was slightly lower than the week before, with a school-wide average of 64% compared to 70.3% the previous week.

There has been a change at the top of the attendance leaderboard, with Kotahitangi finally being knocked off the top spot. A big congratulations to Mana, who achieved the highest attendance rate last week for the first time this term with 68.8%.

Well done also to Yisrael (Room 22) and Mele (Room 21), both from Mana, who were the winners of this week’s LEGO attendance draw.

A special mention goes to Room 26, who achieved the highest attendance rate across the whole school by a significant margin at 88.9%. (Some classes were as low as 50%.)

STUDENTS SIGNING OUT EARLY-EVIDENCE OF APPOINTMENTS

If you sign your tamariki out before the end of the day for an appointment, please send through their appointment letter/confirmation to absences@randwickpark.school.nz. For questions about your childs attendance please see our Liaison Officer Ms Lita through our school office.

SCHOOL DROP OFF AND PICK-UP TIMES

Please ensure that tamariki are not dropped off at school before 8.10am. Children should not be on site before this time, as there is no supervision. Mornings are also very cold, and students are unable to go inside classrooms until 8.30am.

At the end of the school day, all children must be collected by 3.00pm unless they are attending a supervised sports practice or school activity. Staff are not able to supervise children after school, as they have other responsibilities and meetings.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep all tamariki safe.

HOUSE POINTS

Congratulations to Mana for taking out the Week 5 house points competition by just FIVE POINTS over Kotahitanga! Their flag will be raised this week.

TE REO MĀORI

Each week classes will be introduced to te reo Māori words or phrases to learn and use in the classroom. Tamariki and staff will be encouraged to replace everyday English words with te reo Māori and challenge themselves to use it throughout the week. Our aim is to grow confidence in speaking te reo Māori and deepen understanding of the language.

Here is this week’s phrase (sorry your speech button will not work)

RTC

RTC (Responsible Thinking Classroom) is a supported thinking space where tamariki can take time to reflect on their choices or have a quiet break when needed. Classrooms are busy learning environments, and RTC provides a calm space that supports both student wellbeing and continued learning, while also allowing teachers to focus on teaching.

When a child goes to RTC, a teacher works with them to talk through what has happened and to help them develop positive strategies for next time. Being sent to RTC is not a punishment; rather, it is a support to help students learn from their experiences and make better choices moving forward. In the same way we provide support for academic learning, we also support behavioural learning by teaching strategies and skills. We ask whānau not to “tell off” children if they mention going to RTC, but instead to use questions such as, “What happened?” and “What will you do next time?”

We believe that making mistakes is an important part of learning and growth. Whānau will only be contacted about RTC if it becomes an ongoing concern or if additional support is needed to help the child be successful.

EID AL-ADHA CELEBRATION

Eid al-Adha is an important festival celebrated by Muslims around the world. In 2026, Eid al-Adha is on Thursday 28 May. It is a time of reflection, gratitude, and generosity, and it marks an important story of faith and sacrifice in Islamic tradition.

Families often celebrate by coming together, sharing special meals, giving to those in need, and spending time with loved ones. As a school community, we acknowledge and respect the significance of this celebration and extend warm wishes to all whānau observing Eid al-Adha. We wish you a joyful, peaceful, and meaningful celebration with your family and friends.

If your tamariki are going to be away on this day, please let us know either via email (absences@randwickpark.school.nz) or through the Hero app.

RIPPA RUGBY – CHAMP OF CHAMPS

We had a great day at the Rippa Rugby Champ of Champs Tournament last Thursday, with three teams qualifying — Year 7/8 Boys, Year 7/8 Girls, and Year 5/6 Boys. Both Year 7/8 teams went undefeated throughout the tournament to be crowned champions in their divisions. Our Year 5/6 Boys team also played brilliantly, recording four impressive wins and narrowly losing two tight games by just one point, finishing 3rd overall. A huge congratulations to all players for their fantastic effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Well done, Randwick!

WARRIORS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Our girls’ group, Tupu Maia, is really enjoying their sessions with the Warriors Community Foundation. They are learning so much about confidence, resilience, and leadership.

Ngā mihi nui again to the Warriors Community Foundation for this amazing opportunity.

ALFRISTON COLLEGE P.E CLASSES

For the next five weeks, Year 13 students from Alfriston College PE classes will be working with some of our Year 5/6 students, teaching Physical Education lessons using a game-based approach.

We had our first session last Friday, and our students thoroughly enjoyed working alongside the senior students. It was especially lovely to welcome back some of our former students as leaders and teachers in our school community.

This program provides the Year 13 students with an opportunity to gain NCEA credits while developing their leadership and teaching skills, and we look forward to seeing the positive connections and learning continue over the coming weeks.

If Addison Ipswitch Ruled the World… A Cautionary Tale – SYNOPSIS

Meet Addison Ipswitch, a mad professor who “wants to rule the world!” His friends call him AI… if he had any friends. Follow him as he attempts to befriend Apple and Sam, who are meant to be working on their school project. He distracts them with influencers as they “just have a quick look.” Will AI take over the world, or will he learn to work alongside us? A modern-day conundrum.

Tickets will be sold from Week 8 (Monday 8th June) from our school office
(cash and eftpos only).

SPORTS COACH NEEDED

We are currently looking for someone to help support our sports coaches with after-school training. Strength and experience in rugby would be a real advantage. The role would involve helping with after-school training, as well as being available to attend tournaments and sports events during the week if possible.

This would be a paid position, with remuneration negotiable depending on experience and availability.

If you are interested, or would like more information, please contact our school office.

PARENT/WHĀNAU VOLUNTEER FOR MATARIKI

We are on the look out for parent/whānau who are keen to run lunch time activities during the week of the 29th June to 3rd July for Matariki. Please email m.tokolahi@randwickpark.school.nz if you are able to volunteer.

FREE IKURA/PERIOD PRODUCTS FOR WHĀNAU

Our school is committed to supporting student wellbeing and ensuring access to essential hygiene products. Free period products are available for students and families who may need them. Products can be collected discreetly through the school office or Year 5-8 teacher/kaiako.

We believe no student should miss learning opportunities because of period poverty. If your family would benefit from support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. All requests will be handled respectfully and confidentially.

For more information, please contact the school office on 0800 438 777.
