TERM 1 ATTENDANCE & LEGO WINNERS

Well done to Kotahitanga House again – they are on a roll and proving very hard to knock off the top spot for house attendance! Last week they achieved 76.1% attendance, even higher than the week before. The challenge is on for the other houses to see who can take over first place.
Congratulations to Riaana (Room 21) and Kingstyn (Room 12), both from Kotahitanga, who were the lucky winners of our weekly Lego draw. Enjoy your prizes and happy building!
A special congratulations to Room 8, who had the highest class attendance last week, closely followed by Room 31. An awesome effort from both classes!
Thank you to all of our tamariki and whānau for making attendance a priority. Every day at school is an opportunity to learn, grow, build friendships, and take part in the many experiences our school offers. Regular attendance helps set strong habits for success, this means fewer than five days off school each term.

TE REO MĀORI
Each week classes will be introduced to te reo Māori words or phrases to learn and use in the classroom. Tamariki and staff will be encouraged to replace everyday English words with te reo Māori and challenge themselves to use it throughout the week. Our aim is to grow confidence in speaking te reo Māori and deepen understanding of the language.
Here is this week’s phrase (sorry your speech button will not work)

GYMNASTICS
Our neurodiverse tamariki are enjoying weekly gymnastics sessions at Bruce Pulman every Wednesday. These sessions provide a wonderful opportunity for the children to build confidence, develop their physical skills, and explore a range of equipment in a fun and supportive environment. They especially love having the space to move, run, and discover new ways to engage with the activities.

YR 5-6 GIRLS FOOTBALL
Congratulations to our Year 5/6 Girls Football Team who represented our school at the MPSSA Tournament last week. The girls were undefeated in their first 3 games finishing top of their pool. They faced a strong Manurewa West side in the semi-final, going down 2–0, before another tough match against Leabank in the bronze medal playoff, finishing 4th overall out of 16 teams, an outstanding achievement! A huge thank you to Whaea Rebecca for coaching and supporting the team.

YR 7-8 BOYS RUGBY
Our two Year 7/8 Boys’ Rugby teams had an excellent day at the Central Counties tournament last Tuesday. Both the Under 60kg and Open Weight teams were unbeaten throughout the day, qualifying for the Counties Zone finals next week. Thank you to Jordan for his amazing coaching, and to Mr Lologa for supporting us on the day.

PEER MEDIATORS
This term we have some new helpers in the playground. Working alongside RTLBs (Resource Teachers for Learning and Behaviour), we have trained a dedicated group of senior students as Peer Mediators. They had to apply for the role and then take part in training sessions. The Peer Mediators are in the junior playground every lunchtime, helping to sort out small issues such as sharing and taking turns. If there are any bigger problems, they take the students to a duty teacher. This is a great way for our tamariki to show leadership skills and contribute positively to our school environment. They now have brand new blue vests so they are easy to spot.

TEACHER ONLY DAY
At last Friday’s teacher-only day, teachers spent the day working with a Ministry of Education Maths Specialist. The aim was to deepen teachers’ understanding of the refreshed Maths curriculum. They learned about accelerating learning through a strengths-based approach. We also looked at the Geometry and Algebra strands. It was a very positive learning day, with teachers strengthening their Maths knowledge so they can better support all learners to build confidence, develop problem-solving skills, and experience success. Thank you for your support in making arrangements for tamariki to ensure this valuable day could take place.

FLU VACCINE
The flu vaccine is free for people at higher risk of getting very sick, including:
- people aged 65 years and over
- people aged 6 months and over who have a long term medical condition like diabetes, asthma, or a heart condition
- pregnant people
- tamariki (children) aged 4 years and under who have been hospitalised for respiratory illness, or have a history of significant respiratory illness
- people with mental health conditions, including schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, or schizoaffective disorder
- people who are currently accessing secondary or tertiary mental health and addiction services.
The funded flu vaccine for tamariki and adults (6 months of age and over) available in Aotearoa New Zealand is called Influvac Tetra.
Book your vaccine
Flu vaccines are available from your doctor, nurse, pharmacy, healthcare provider and some midwives. Some pharmacies have age limits on children they offer vaccines to, so it is important to check first if taking your child for immunisation.
Flu vaccines for an individual, or a group, can also be booked online through Book My Vaccine, or over the phone.
Find more information about booking a vaccine, or how to get specific support for your needs.
