If Addison Ipswitch Ruled the World… A Cautionary Tale – SYNOPSIS

Meet Addison Ipswitch, a mad professor who “wants to rule the world!” His friends call him AI… if he had any friends. Follow him as he attempts to befriend Apple and Sam, who are meant to be working on their school project. He distracts them with influencers as they “just have a quick look.” Will AI take over the world, or will he learn to work alongside us? A modern-day conundrum.

Tickets are on sale now from our student window. There are limited tickets per session due to our hall capacity and limited door sales on the night.

LEGO WINNERS AND ATTENDANCE

Winter has certainly arrived, and while coughs, colds, and wet mornings can make it tempting to stay home, regular attendance remains one of the most important factors in a child’s success at school. Last week our school-wide attendance rate was 62.8%. We appreciate the efforts of whānau who continue to support their tamariki to attend school every day they are well enough to do so.

Kotahitanga continues to set the standard for attendance across the school and remain the house in first place. Congratulations to our LEGO prize winners, Jaylee from Room 7 and Te Arepa from Room 24. Their names were drawn from all Kotahitanga students who had 100% attendance last week. Remember every day at school counts.

A special shout out goes to Room 20, who had the highest class attendance rate last week with an impressive 84%. This is the first time this term they have taken out the top spot, and they will get a special treat to acknowledge their efforts.

The race for the term attendance prize is still on! The class with the highest attendance rate across the term will enjoy a pizza lunch, so keep up the great work and let’s see who can finish on top.

HOUSE POINTS

Congratulations to Mana for taking out the Week 8 house points.
Their flag will be raised this week.

APPOINTMENTS AND ATTENDANCE REMINDERS

Each day we have tamariki being signed out between 12.30 pm and 1.50 pm. When students are absent from this time, they are recorded as absent for the second half of the school day. If your child is attending a medical appointment, please provide a copy of the appointment confirmation so we can accurately code the reason for their absence.

Regular attendance is a key focus for schools across New Zealand. The Ministry of Education’s goal is for all students to attend school regularly, with a target of at least 90% attendance. Every school day and every learning opportunity matters, and attending for the full day is important for all students.

We also ask that children are only signed out after 2.30 pm when it is essential or an emergency. Where possible, please wait until the end of the school day, as there are only 15 minutes remaining and this helps minimise disruption to learning and end-of-day routines.

Thank you for your support in helping us maintain accurate attendance records and maximise learning time for all students.

TE REO MĀORI

Each week classes will be introduced to te reo Māori words or phrases to learn and use in the classroom. Tamariki and staff will be encouraged to replace everyday English words with te reo Māori and challenge themselves to use it throughout the week. Our aim is to grow confidence in speaking te reo Māori and deepen understanding of the language.

Here is this week’s phrase (sorry your speech button wont work)

ROTARY DONATION

A big thank you to Rotary, whose members recently organised a food appeal. Through their generosity, we received a collection of canned goods and other non-perishable items that will help us make food parcels for whānau who may need extra support.

We are incredibly grateful for Rotary’s kindness, community spirit, and commitment to helping others.

MANA KIDSZ HEALTH NURSES

We have ManaKids health nurses onsite daily. They can see your tamariki for :

  • Sore throats
  • Skin checks
  • Head lice
  • Dental health
  • Ear and eye health and checks
  • Respiratory health
  • Allergies

If you need your tamariki to be seen by our nurses, please let our office staff or your child/rens kaiako know. For more information on Mana Kidz visit their website here.

MPSSA RUGBY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

We had three teams competing at the Year 5/6 MPSSA Rugby League Tournament last Thursday –  Open Weight Girls, Open Weight Boys, and Under 45kg Boys teams.

Our girls team came up against some very big and experienced teams, but they never backed down and improved with every game. For most of the girls, this was their first time playing a contact sport and making tackles, so we were incredibly proud of the effort and courage they showed throughout the day. A huge thank you to Mr Regi for coaching the team.

The Open Weight Boys got off to a great start, winning two games and showing some awesome skill and talent across the field. Unfortunately, they just missed out on a semi-final spot on points difference, but they should be proud of the way they played.

Our Under 45kg Boys team had an outstanding day, going undefeated throughout the tournament. They faced Manurewa Central in a nail-biting final that went into extra time. The boys dug deep and came away with the win to be crowned tournament champions! It was a fantastic effort from the whole team and a well-deserved result.

A big thank you to Mrs Leha, Ana and all the whānau who came out to support us during the day. We really appreciate your time, encouragement, and support.

COUNTIES ZONE GIRLS RUGBY

Last Wednesday, our Year 7/8 Girls’ Rugby team competed at the Counties Zone Finals tournament. They won three pool play games before having a narrow loss in the semi-final against Kauri Flats. They bounced back to beat Greenmeadows Intermediate convincingly in the playoff for third. Their improvement at every training prior to the tournament, and the further improvement they showed after each game was impressive. Thank you to all the whānau who came to support us on the day!

TE HUI AKO TERM 3

Our Te Hui Ako meetings to share learning are scheduled for 28 and 29 July (Week 2 of Term 3). Next week, we will be sending out booking forms. Whānau can book online or return the booking form to the school office. If you have any questions, please talk to our office staff.

We look forward to meeting with all of our tamariki and their whānau.

Te Hui Ako meetings will be an opportunity for students, whānau, and teachers to discuss the mid-year report, share student reflections, and set learning goals for the remainder of the year. Teachers are currently working on these reports, which will be shared with whānau through Hero in the last week of term. They will include information about your child’s progress and achievement in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, along with a general.

You will notice some changes to the format and language used in the report. Instead of the previous terms Above, At, Below, and Well Below, we will be using the following descriptors: Emerging, Developing, Consolidating, Proficient, and Exceeding.

Emerging – Your child is beginning to develop the knowledge and skills expected at their year level. They are working towards curriculum expectations and benefit from ongoing support, guidance, and opportunities to practise their learning.

Developing – Your child is making progress towards the knowledge and skills expected at their year level. They are building confidence and capability and are continuing to work towards consistently meeting curriculum expectations.

Consolidating – Your child is meeting many of the expected learning outcomes for their year level and is strengthening their ability to apply knowledge and skills with increasing confidence and independence.

Proficient – Your child is consistently demonstrating the knowledge and skills expected at their year level. They can apply their learning independently across a range of contexts and are meeting curriculum expectations.

Exceeding – Your child is demonstrating knowledge and skills beyond those typically expected at their year level. They apply their learning confidently, independently, and in increasingly complex situations.

It is important to remember that learning is a journey. Students progress at different rates and may be working across different curriculum levels. The most important measure is the progress they are making over time.

STAFF PINK MORNING TEA

Last week, staff came together for a Pink Morning Tea in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, share kai, and raise funds for an important cause.

Thanks to the generosity of our staff, we raised $310. There was a fantastic spread of food, plenty of pink on display, and some very full tummies by the end of the morning!

PARENT/WHĀNAU VOLUNTEER FOR MATARIKI

We are on the look out for parent/whānau who are keen to run lunch time activities during the week of the 29th June to 3rd July for Matariki. Please email m.tokolahi@randwickpark.school.nz if you are able to volunteer.

SCHOOL DOCS

Randwick Park School’s policies are available on a site called SchoolDocs. Policies are regularly reviewed on a two-year cycle. All members of our community, including staff and whānau, are able to view our policies and give  feedback on those that are up for review.

This term’s focus is Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC), which includes the following:
