MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Welcome back to a new term. It was fantastic to see our tamariki return yesterday with big smiles, full of energy, and ready for another exciting term of learning.

We started the term with a pōwhiri to welcome our new students and new staff. We are delighted to welcome Taliilagi Mamea to our teaching team. Whaea Tali will be teaching in Room 10 for the remainder of the year.

We have a busy term ahead with many exciting learning opportunities. Our school-wide concept All Systems Go!, will see students exploring Planet Earth and Beyond through Science. Our senior students will also be preparing and presenting speeches for Rehui Tai, with class and team finals taking place throughout the term. Our choir is preparing for their performances and then the AIMS Games, where three of our teams will represent Randwick Park School in Tauranga.

But our biggest events this term will be farewelling Ms McMurray, who is retiring after 30 years of dedicated service to Randwick Park School. We are currently planning a special farewell to celebrate her contribution and will share the details once they are confirmed. I will be continuing in the Acting Principal role while the position is advertised and an appointment made.

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or need support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Members of our Senior Leadership Team are always available through the school office.

A MESSAGE FROM MS MCMURRAY

To Our Randwick Park Whānau

Kia ora koutou,

At a recent meeting, our School Board accepted my resignation. This has not been an easy decision. As many of you are aware, I have been on extended leave since 2025 due to health challenges within my whānau.

It has been a privilege to serve as Principal of Randwick Park School for the past three decades. During this time, I have come to know many of you and your aiga personally. For some families, I have had the privilege of seeing two and even three generations pass through our kura. Many of you have made Randwick Park your home, and I have loved being part of this community and watching it grow into the richly diverse and vibrant place it is today.

I would like to acknowledge Miss Andrea Bleakley, who stepped into the role of Principal during my absence. Under her leadership, and with the support of the Senior Leadership Team and our amazing staff, Randwick Park School has continued to flourish.

Thank you for your continued support of our school throughout my time as Principal. It has been an honour to serve our RPS community. I wish you, your tamariki, and future generations of Randwick Park School every happiness and success. I look forward to hearing about the many great things that lie ahead for our kura.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Regular attendance is an ongoing focus at Randwick Park School. Being at school every day provides tamariki with valuable opportunities to learn, build friendships, develop confidence, and be part of our school community. Even a small number of missed days can impact a child’s progress over time.

The Ministry of Education expects students to attend regularly, which means at least 90% attendance (less than five days away per term). Please let the school know through the Hero app or by email if your child is absent.

A reminder that students who are signed out before the end of the school day may be marked absent for that half-day if they do not attend the required amount of learning time. If your child is attending a medical, dental, or specialist appointment, please provide confirmation of the appointment so we can record the absence using the correct Ministry of Education attendance code.

A huge thank you to the Kindness Collective, who have donated LEGO sets to support our attendance incentives. Each week, two students will be randomly drawn from the house with the highest attendance, and they will get to choose a LEGO set to take home. We will continue celebrating our winning house and class in the newsletter, with a pizza lunch awarded to the class with the highest attendance across the term. Congratulations to Room 22, our Term 2 attendance champions!

Thank you to all whānau for supporting regular attendance. Together, we can help tamaiti make the most of their learning opportunities and achieve success.

2027 DUFFY CALENDAR

We are excited to share that four of our students have had their artwork selected for the 2027 Duffy Calendar. This is a wonderful achievement and a fantastic opportunity to showcase their creativity and artistic talents. We are incredibly proud of the effort, imagination, and care they put into their artwork. Congratulations to all of our successful artists, we can’t wait to see the calendars when they arrive later this year!

LOCKDOWN PRACTICE

On Monday 29 June, Randwick Park School carried out a lockdown practice. We regularly hold these drills to ensure our tamariki and staff are confident and prepared should we ever need to go into lockdown to keep everyone safe.

During the practice, we were supported by Harrison Tew, a company that specialises in emergency management systems for schools. They observed the drill, provided feedback, and helped ensure our procedures remain current and effective.

Our students and staff did an outstanding job. Within seconds of the bell sounding, everyone was safely down and quiet in the center of the room away from the windows. A special thank you to Mr Dawson, who led the practice and ensured everything ran smoothly.

If we ever need to go into a real lockdown, we will communicate with whānau through Hero and the school website. During a lockdown, it is important that whānau do not come to the school. Staff will not open doors, as their priority is to keep all tamariki safe. Coming to the school could also draw attention and put others in danger. We would also not answer the phone, so keep checking Hero for updates.

While we hope we never have to put these procedures into practice in a real emergency, regular drills help ensure we are prepared to respond calmly and effectively if needed.

ENVIRO MUFTI DAY

Thank you to everyone who supported our Enviro Day at the end of last term. We raised $516.00 which will go to our gardens and seeds.

We have ManaKids health nurses onsite daily. They can see your tamariki for :
