FRIDAY 21 AUGUST – SCHOOL CLOSED

This Friday 21 August Randwick Park School will be closed. Please ensure the safety of your tamariki on this day. We look forward to seeing everyone at school on Monday 24 August.

FAREWELL MS MCMURRAY

Last Friday, Randwick Park School came together to celebrate and farewell our foundation Principal, Ms Karen McMurray.

From the opening pōwhiri, karakia and waiata, to Karen sharing her words with our school, we celebrated the incredible journey that began when she helped establish our school in 1996.

The assembly was filled with memories, including a look back at the history of Randwick Park School, heartfelt words from our Board and Acting Principal, and beautiful performances from our students.

Our diverse cultural groups – Tongan, Filipino, Cook Islands, Indian, Samoan, Fijian and Kapa Haka –  each performed and presented gifts to Karen, representing the many cultures and communities that make RPS what it is today.

We finished with the whole school singing ‘We Are RPS’, followed by a powerful final haka and waiata as Karen and her whānau made their way out of the hall.

What an incredible way to honour someone who has been a constant, guiding presence in our school community for nearly 30 years.

Thank you, Karen, for your leadership, your service, your care and your unwavering commitment to Randwick Park School.  You may be leaving our school, but your legacy will remain in our people, our stories and the generations of students you have supported.

Mā te wā, Karen.

You will always be part of the Randwick Park whānau.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

Our regular attendance last week was 57.7%. We know there are a lot of colds and bugs going around at the moment, and we appreciate whānau keeping tamariki at home when they are unwell. If your child is absent, please remember to let us know through the Hero app.

We would also like to remind whānau that students should remain at school for the full school day wherever possible. Please avoid signing students out early unless it is necessary, as missing learning time can have an impact on their progress and achievement.

Congratulations to Kotahitanga, our winning attendance house again last week! They are continuing to lead the way, come to school everyday and let’s see if you can catch Kotahitanga and take the top spot!  Well done to Lynaiea from Room 32 and Abeer from Room 7, our lucky LEGO winners from Kotahitanga.

A big congratulations to Room 1, who are back on top this week with the highest regular attendance across the school!

ZONE CROSS COUNTRY

Last week Randwick Park School participated in the Zone Cross Country. All our tamariki put in a huge effort. A special well done to Arsh Chandra who came 10th in the Year 7 boys round and qualifies for the Auckland Interzone Cross Country next Friday. Well done Arsh, an impressive achievement.

YEAR 5-6 GIRLS RUGBY

Well done to our Year 5&6 girls rugby team who competed at the MPSSA tournament last week. They started the day strong with a win against Manurewa Central. They then lost to Te Matauranga, Leabank and Weymouth but finished the day on a high with a win against Rowendale, putting them in 7th place. It has been awesome to see the improvement and confidence from every girl in the team – rugby can be a scary sport, so well done to everyone for stepping outside their comfort zone, giving it a go and trying something new.
